🌞 Slather — Privacy Policy

Slather is a sunscreen-reapplication reminder app. It reads the current UV index for your location, lets you pick an SPF, and reminds you when to reapply. This policy explains what the app does — and does not do — with your information.

The short version

Slather is built to need as little of your data as possible. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party data collection. Slather has no servers of its own — your session history, settings, and reminders live on your device. The only information Slather itself sends off your device is your location, which goes to Apple's weather service so the app can look up your local UV index. Purchases of Slather Premium are handled entirely by Apple — the developer never sees your payment details.

Information Slather uses

Location. With your permission, Slather reads your device's location — on your iPhone, and on your Apple Watch if you use the watch app — and sends it to Apple WeatherKit to retrieve the current UV index for where you are. Your location is used only for this purpose, while you're using the app. It is not stored by the developer, not linked to your identity, and not used to track you. If you deny location access, the app simply can't look up your UV index.

Health data (optional, off by default). If — and only if — you turn on Settings → Apple Health → Sync to Apple Health, Slather writes a UV-exposure sample to the Apple Health app for each sun session you log. Slather never reads any data from Apple Health. These samples stay within Apple Health on your device (and your iCloud Health data, if enabled), under Apple's control — not the developer's. You can turn this off at any time, and delete the samples in the Health app.

On-device data. Your session history, profiles, and app preferences (such as your default SPF) are stored locally on your device using Apple's standard storage (Core Data and UserDefaults). This information never leaves your device and is not transmitted to the developer or anyone else.

Apple Watch. If you use the Slather watch app, your current session and UV reading are mirrored between your iPhone and your Apple Watch using Apple's device-to-device connection (WatchConnectivity). This stays between your own paired devices — it does not pass through any developer server.

Notifications. Reapply reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. They are not sent through any server and do not involve any personal data leaving your phone.

Purchases and subscriptions

Slather offers an optional paid tier, Slather Premium, as an auto-renewing annual subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase. Everything about the transaction is handled by Apple through your App Store account:

• Apple processes the payment and receives your payment details. The developer never sees your payment information — Slather receives only a confirmation from the App Store that Premium is unlocked: no payment details, and no information identifying you.
• Your entitlement is checked on your device using Apple's StoreKit framework against your App Store account. Slather runs no purchase servers and keeps no purchase records of its own.
• No account with the developer is created or required to buy, restore, or use Premium.
• You can manage or cancel the subscription anytime in your Apple ID subscription settings, and restore a previous purchase on any device signed into the same App Store account. If Family Sharing is enabled for the purchase, eligible family members receive Premium through Apple's Family Sharing — the developer receives no information about your family members.

Apple's handling of purchase data is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy and the App Store terms.

What Slather does not do

• It does not require an account or sign-in.
• It does not collect analytics or usage statistics.
• It does not contain advertising or ad-tracking.
• It does not track you across apps or websites.
• It does not include third-party SDKs that collect your data.
• It does not sell or share your personal information. (There is nothing to sell — no personal data is collected by the developer.)

Third-party services

• Apple WeatherKit — receives your location to return UV and weather data. Governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
• Apple Health (HealthKit) — stores the UV-exposure samples you opt to save, under Apple's control and your Health privacy settings.
• Apple App Store / StoreKit — processes Slather Premium purchases, as described above.
• Apple App Store distribution — Slather is distributed through the App Store. If you have shared crash and diagnostic data with app developers in your device's privacy settings, Apple may provide the developer with anonymized crash logs and aggregate statistics; the developer receives no personally identifying information through this. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.

Data retention and deletion

Because your data is stored on your device, deleting the Slather app removes its session history, profiles, and preferences from your device. UV-exposure samples written to Apple Health are managed in the Health app and are not deleted by removing Slather — you can remove them there at any time. Purchase records belong to your App Store account and are managed by Apple.

Permissions and your choices

You're always in control. You can grant or revoke Location, Notifications, and Health access at any time in the iOS Settings app (or, for Health, in the Health app under your profile → Apps). Turning a permission off may disable the related feature, but the app will continue to work for everything else.

Children's privacy

Slather does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app collects no personal data on the developer's behalf. Purchases by children in a Family Sharing group are subject to Apple's Ask to Buy and parental-approval systems.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
